Chapter 14

The goals of this chapter are threefold. First, it quantitatively and qualitatively determines the economic and social cost of illicit trade in marine resources of Africa. Second, it discusses the channels and scale of illicit trade in fish and fish products derived from the Exclusive Economic Zones of African countries. Third, it computes the economic losses and impacts from illicit trade and suggest policy options for curbing this trade in the continent. Finally the chapter describes the current state of fish stocks and the need to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and illicit trade in fish catch in order the increase the change of achieving Infinity fish.
